Mini Me

September 8, 2009 by Lisa Beth

I guess the title of this should be “Mini Chris”.  Just like all three year old boys around the country, Wyatt loves, loves LOVES his dad.  If we are driving and I am on the cell with him, Wyatt screams I talk-a-daddy! until I give up my phone rights.  When I pick him up from school, one of his first questions is, Is dad home, mommy? If I am dishing up a snack at bedtime, he is sure to let me know I need to save some for dad! I think it’s really cool how much Wyatt looks up to his dad, but it does make me wonder, when Chris and Wyatt are together, is Wyatt asking about me?  Probably not, but I guess that’s what I get for being around all the time.  I am just not as cool as dad. Oh well. I’ve got another one that will maybe idolize ME instead of Chris. Hey – a girl can dream.

So, of course, now that Wyatt is all of THREE YEARS OLD, apparently it’s time to take him hunting.

I know, I was a little skeptical as well.  I mean, this is the kid that went screaming into the house at the sound of a small firework.  Gunfire is a little loud.  Make that deafening (just ask my half-deaf husband).  And could be mistaken for fireworks by a kid I suppose.  Chris got him his own pair of earplugs, which he obediently wore (probably because dad was – monkey see, monkey do). So at least his hearing was protected.  If one more person in this house has to listen to the TV on volume 65, I’ll die. Or go crazy. Or both.

Then, Chris took his newest “play gun” a double barrel Nerf something-or-another and completely spray painted it camouflage.  Doesn’t it look like a real mini-gun?

After the first night out dove hunting, Wyatt comes racing in the door screaming MOM! We got the ducks! (All birds are ducks at this point) And we shoot ‘em. And they DEAD! And we bring them home! Wonderful, how do you cook a dove?  That seems all kind of wrong to me.  Aren’t doves like a sign of peace? Or is that a totally different kind of dove? I would ask Chris but he’d totally make fun of me……

One final tidbit for the night – Wyatt will sometimes call his dad Chris, probably because he hears me calling him that. Chris always corrects him and says,  No, I’m daddy. So the other day we were driving and Wyatt was explaining to us Dad – you are dad and Chris. So I asked him (naturally), What’s mom then, Wyatt? He thought for a minute and replied, You mom and honey.
