The Goblins and Ghouls of our House

November 1, 2009 by Lisa Beth

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. I distinctly remember decorating our house to the max every year. Complete with haunted houses and creepy spider webs.  My friends and I would set up a “haunted house” for our friends (aka- our parents) at least twice a year. One time in the summer, and of course, one time around Halloween.  The funniest haunted house I remember was one were we had “Danger Zone” by Kenny Loggins playing as you entered the house (aka-the garage)! Hilarious.

So, as you can imagine, Wyatt has inherited my love for the holiday. I actually felt a little guilty this year, as the Halloween decorationis did not come out of their boxes until about a week before Halloween, and I feel like we do not have nearly the collection of goodies I had growing up.  I suppose this comes with time.  In fact, many of our decorations are from my childhood – donated by my parents who no longer decorate for the holiday. I imagine it isn’t quite the same with out kids around to enjoy it.

Now Wyatt is old enough that he wanted to choose his own costume – actually he was old enough last year, because I found this REALLY CUTE Thomas the Train costume for him and he fought me until I let him be Spiderman.  He was 2 1/2 then.  Now at almost four, I didn’t even make any “suggestions” I just let him decide from the get-go.  So of course he picked the most boring ugly costume Walmart had to offer – a Transformer.

But I am happy that Brooklyn still has NO SAY in what her costume will be, so I found the cutest, fluffiest, girliest bee costume I could find. Complete with antenna, wings and a wand…

of course Wyatt had the wand the whole time.  I guess Transformers need some kind of weapon, right? ‘Cuz pretty much everything can be turned into a weapon in our house.

We took Wyatt trick-or-treating with our friends, the Nelsons…halloween

Please excuse the poor quality of the picture, DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO GET 5 KIDS UNDER THE AGE OF 4 TO COOPERATE FOR A PICTURE?  And after they’ve all had too much candy to boot…

So we went to the scariest house in town, one that goes ALL OUT, complete with the news crew there and everything.  Some kids were too scared to actually go up to the door and “trick-or-treat”. Not Wyatt, oh no. He walked right up to the freakishly dressed goblins and vampires and gave them high fives.  Seriously? This kid has no fear.  The adults dressed like zombies even gave me a slight chill as we walked up to the house. Not Wyatt, he exclaimed “COOL!” after we left.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
