The Many Faces of Wyatt
February 21, 2009 by Lisa Beth
Since Wyatt started Becep preschool late last year, he has progressed so much and learned so many new things. (Becep = Bismarck early childhood education program). We had our first “parent teacher conference” a couple of weeks ago. I know – he’s only three! They like to start early now. But it was very interesting and we learned that Wyatt is doing very well in almost all areas evaluated. And believe me, there were something like 4 typed pages of areas that are looked at. One of the areas they evaluate is the ability of the child to recognize and show emotions. This is done by pointing to an “expression face” on a chart, and being able to recognize these emotions on other people’s faces. I thought we’d try some of the expressions out at home. Here’s our results:
MOM: “Wyatt, show me your happy face!”
WYATT:

MOM: “Can you show me a mad face?”
WYATT:

MOM: “How ’bout a surprised face?”
WYATT:

MOM: ” Can you show me a sad face?”
WYATT:

MOM: “That looks more like a constipated face.”
WYATT: “What’s that, Mom?”
MOM: “Never mind, try a sad face again.”
WYATT:

MOM: “That’s better, how about a scared face?”
WYATT:

MOM: “An excited face?”
WYATT:

MOM: “An angry face?”
WYATT:

MOM: ” Can you do a tired face?”
WYATT:

So, thank you teachers at Becep – you are doing a great job! I think he has passed this area, don’t you? I love seing how much he learns every single day. Tell a teacher today how much they are appreciated, I don’t think they get enough credit for all their hard work!
