Walk with me
April 13, 2010 by Lisa Beth
Baby girl is finally walking! Just over Easter weekend, Brooklyn has decided that walking is A-OK. We wondered if it would ever happen, since she is over 14 months old now and it seemed as thought she had given up on walking for good. She is a lightening fast crawler, and so I suppose she figured why walk when I can get around just fine the way it is? Just like Wyatt, one day, she just started standing up and took off on her own. We had the right tracks nurse out to the house just a few weeks ago (the nurse that tracks kids’ development to make sure they are on the “right track” – clever, huh?), and she was unconcerned with Brooklyn’s slow start to walking and talking. She said that she might be slow to talk because she is concentrating on walking, or visa versa. This seemed like a reasonable explanation, but when you have gone through one child with a speech delay, it’s still a little hard to swallow. Hopefully now that she is mastering walking, she will start to focus on her words. She does say a few things, daddy, baby, and puppy. She refuses to call me mommy or mama or mom, she just shouts DADDY! as loud as she can when she sees me (and dad, and grandma, and grandpa, and Wyatt) She must just think it’s easier this way?
I am so happy that Brooke is starting to get around a little better on her own. I had these visions of carrying a 30 pound 18 month old AND an infant carrier with a baby around town. I know it’s going to be a huge change bringing a baby home with a near-baby already at home vs. a three year old independent boy, so it should be an interesting few months at our house, especially since my due date is remarkably close to “early goose opener”. Not great planning Chris would tell you (or planning at all!) But I think we will get along just fine. Wyatt is a great helper already, and in 4 1/2 or so months from now, I think he will be even better.
