We Have the Swine Flu…Yes the Swine Flu. Oink, Oink.

Our household has officially been hit with the dreaded swine flu, otherwise known as H1N1.  And it is gross.  We are almost over it at this point, but it was no fun while we were in the thoroughs of sickness.  We think we can trace it back to the kid’s daycare.  One of the other children tested positive for Influenza A, which the doctor told me at the clinic is what is testing for H1N1 and that’s probably where it came from.  So when I had the kids in last week (for the ear infection, etc.) they probably already had it, just not a very severe case = no fever.  Then they gave it to me, and I got all the fun symptoms including but not limited to: body aches, chills, PAIN!, headache, harsh cough, PAIN!, sore throat, extreme weakness, PAIN!, and fever. Did I mention there was PAIN! involved?  Because it hurt to breath. Or lay down. Or sleep. So, yeah…..not so much fun.

But on the bright side, I feel much better today!  So I should go back to work, huh?  I wish. (Seriously, I do.) But, my employer has decided this year, in addition to making the flu vaccine mandatory, to require employees who DO come down with the flu to stay out of work for 7 days! Yikes.  I never take this many days off from work in a row, unless I’ve just had a baby.

So, I didn’t look THAT bad (I hope-don’t ask Chris), but pretty much felt like it.  And speaking of Chris, he has managed to avoid this illness, and I’m not sure how. (I’m sure just typing this put a huge jinx on him and he will develop symptoms immediately. Sorry honey.) He breathes the same air as us 24/7, has been smootching all over the kids since he got home, and eats meals prepared by me (which is risky with or without the swine flu). So, we’ll see.

I am hearing lots and lots of cases of swine flu around here, (so many in fact, they have stopped testing) so I imagine it is pretty rampid around the country.  WASH HANDS! DON’T SHAKE HANDS! Basically, DON’T BREATH THE AIR AROUND YOU! And you’ll be just fine.  Here’s hoping all my readers are healthy!
