Why do my children hate eating when I love it so?

Wyatt has to be on of the pickiest eaters on the planet. It is no wonder at close to 40 inches tall, he still struggles to stay around the 32 pound mark. When Wyatt first started eating “grown up foods” he would eat just about anything I would cook for dinner. Then that week ended and we’ve been struggling ever since.

Although we have made some breakthroughs recently (see the pork chop blog) it still is really hit-and-miss. Usually if he has skipped breakfast and refused lunch, he may eat a good dinner.  If every meal was Mac-N-Cheese, well then we’d be set. Unfortunately, Mac-N-Cheese does not have all the nutrients essential for a growing boy.

Just like the potty training, I feel like we have tried just about every avenue to try to convince him that eating is NECESSARY TO LIVE AND PLAY WITH TRANSFORMERS.  We have tried the “no-supper-it’s-straight-to-bed” method. Failed.  We have tried the “eat-the-rest-of-this-and-you-can-have-dessert” method. Failed.  He doesn’t like dessert either. We have tried the “eat-what-we-serve-you-or-don’t-eat-at-all” method. Failed.  We have even tried the “I-give-up-we’ll-just-let-him-eat-what-he-wants” method.  Eventually failed.  WHAT DOES THIS KID LIVE ON?

So now, we are back to cooking what we want and kind of forcing him to at least try a bite or two. Chris usually has more success getting bites down, I guess he’s scarier than mom.  Usually, after a bite, he’ll respond with a “Mmmm. . . . that’s good!” Then we get all excited and say, “See? You like it! Here have some more!” To which Wyatt responds, “No thanks, I’m done.” Grrrrr.

The sad thing? Brooklyn HATES her rice cereal I’ve been trying to force feed her for the last month. I know, I know it is supposed to take them some time to develop a taste for solids, but a month? I think not.  She started by screwing up her face and clamping her mouth shut every time I would try to feed her.  Then she graduated to turning her head so I was feeding her ear lobes. Now she flat out spits it out AT ME. Picture a cute baby blowing bubbles, but with a mouth full of cereal.  I am usually covered by the end of the feeding.  More of the cereal is in my hair and up my nose than in her tummy. Speaking of, I need to catch that on video…..

Wow, our kids could double for twins, in their respective catergories. Will doesn’t eat. It is pulling teeth and bribing in everyway possible to get him to eat something besides junk. Connor HATES baby food although we have finally gotten him to eat rice cereal. We just started to feed him regular people food appropiate for his age and LOVES it. These kids, seriously. I LOVE enough food for the three of us.

Amy – Glad I’m not the only one. We have been struggling for YEARS with the food battle with Wyatt. Can be quite frustrating!
